About Me

Hi, I’m Josiah!

I’m a professional freelance writer.

I also happen to be the founder and chief blogger of Newbie Freelance Writer (NFW), a site that is dedicated to helping newbies make progress towards new levels of success as part-time or full-time freelance writers.

My Story

A few years back I was in your exact same position. A timid newbie trying to establish myself in the industry.

I was sold on the dream that freelance writing was my ticket to a life of blissful freedom.

After working menial jobs, I managed to raise enough money to sign up for a PAID freelance writing course (at least I was smart enough to know I needed some form of training before I started – clapping for myself).

In the course, I was told that Upwork was the goldmine when it comes to freelancing jobs. All I needed to do was create an account and dollar bills will start flowing in like manna from heaven.

I could hear the song “Made Men by Rick Ross Ft. Drake” ring in my head as I was signing up for an Upwork account. If you haven’t heard the song yet, the chorus goes something like this…

“Dollar bills on top of dollar bills

Thats all I’m throwing, if she won’t lil’ momma will

Made niggas, talking a lotta skrill

Eight digits a nigga tryna live

Made man, you hear what I said

I got a hundred squares if you scared, called the feds

Made men, I’m screaming dollar bills

Pop the trunk on the Porsche, there they go, dollar bills”

But my oh my was I in for a rude shock!

The excitement quickly faded when a few weeks later I still had not secured any client and my account was deactivated for inactivity soon after.

I tried out iWriter (back then they were accepting non-Native writers), and I had some success with it before again they slammed the door right on my face [mean face emoji].

The Aha Moment & Some Success

That’s when I figured there’s got to be a better way to succeed as a freelance writer.

Luckily, in March 2020, I stumbled upon yet another course that taught me everything I know about freelance writing today (find more details about the course in the resources section).

I learned how to choose a profitable niche, how and where to find high-paying clients, and most importantly how to craft pitches that clients love.

I used those exact strategies to land a few high-paying clients.

Although I’m still in the early stages of my freelance writing career, I’m already making what I consider a full-time income working part-time hours.

The Why behind NFW

You see, making money online as a freelance writer is very much possible if you get the right training coupled with some individual effort.

And that’s precisely why I founded this blog, to help newbie freelance writers like you establish your freelance writing careers the right way, not through guesswork or trial-and-error.

It’s a place where I share lessons I’ve learned on my journey to becoming a professional freelance writer.

In here, you’ll find everything you need to know to go from newbie to pro within the shortest time possible.

If you enjoy writing and have always seen yourself as a writer then online freelance writing might just be a career option for you.
